In this Spanish name, the first or paternal surname is Mola and the second or maternal family name is Vidal.

Emilio Mola y Vidal (9 July 1887 – 3 June 1937) was a Spanish military officer who was one of the three leaders of the Nationalist coup of July 1936 that started the Spanish Civil War.

After the death of Jose Sanjurjo on 20 July 1936, Mola commanded the Nationalists in the north of Spain, while Franco operated in the south. He died in a plane crash in bad weather, leaving Franco as the pre-eminent Nationalist leader for the rest of the war.
